My pool cleaner is running too slow!

First you must determine if the pool cleaner has always run slowly or if this is something that has only recently began to happen.
What causes the pool cleaner to run slow?
As you could imagine, the speed of the unit will usually be affected by two things; debris blocking the oscillator from pulsating, or a lack of suction to the pool cleaner itself, which could be cause by numerous things. If there is debris blocking the oscillator, please remove debris and double check performance.
If either the speed of the unit has been an ongoing thing since installation of the cleaner, or you have repaired or replaced the pump or/and filter, please click here to be taken to ‘ensuring your unit runs at the correct speed’.
If this problem is a recent occurrence, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Have we had a storm recently?
    • Have I cleared out debris from the pool cleaner and the valve in the skimmer box?
    • Have I emptied the basket?
    • Is my water level higher than it should be?
  • Have you backwashed your filtration system to ensure optimum suction?
  • Is the hose split?
  • Is the unit sitting flat on the floor, or tilted?
    • Is there a hose weight approximately 1 inch up the hose at the unit end?
If the pool cleaner is not moving or is pulsating slowly:
  • Check to ensure that the main drain and all suction lines are closed, except for the skimmer box or suction line to which the pool cleaner is attached.
  • Check for debris in the filter or pump basket.
  • Check for debris in the pool cleaner flapper. Debris may prevent flapper movement or restrict flow.
